Because We Are Living Single

I saw "A Single Man", Tom Ford's latest venture, last night. The film delivered aesthetically, fantastic early sixties costumes and mid century modern sets, but the dialogue was corny and the music overwrought. I wanted to feel more sympathy towards the characters or even relate but everyone's interactions just felt so contrived.

The exception, of course, was Julianne Moore. Everything about her character was thoroughly enjoyable, including but not limited to:

-- Clothes (Carnaby St.)
-- Preparation music (French ye-ye)
-- Telephones (60's princess phones)
-- Cigarettes (Pink with gold tips)
-- House (Orange trees INSIDE, shag carpeting etc.)

Bonus features include a fully stocked bar.

The movie could have benefited with more screen time of her character Charley. Perhaps I'll just have to wait for the spin-off.

Other highlights included Kenny's friend Lois and a hustler named Carlos from Madrid. Lois is an obvious nod to Brigitte Bardot. Her character only smokes in one scene and whispers in the other. Total screen time is maybe about a minute. Carlos tries to make Colin Firth pick him up, but they just end up chit-chattin'. Both Lois and Carlos are probs way more than likely models.

Overall not a must-see movie unless you really love Julianne Moore/models/Mad Men.

Also, I bumped some lady in the head with my bag while sitting down and she exclaimed "ouch". Guess my sweater (aka only thing in there) was 2heavy2handle.
