Mon Jour dans le Ruisseau

J'ai seulement deux fotos de hier. Ici:

Jen joue dans l'eau pendant Max voit.

Ouais!

Paintings of Cakes

Like I've said before, I am all about taking about crafts and hobbies.

Last night I spent three hours sewing a laptop / tote bag out of material that formerly acted as a tapestry in my studio apartment (read: dorm).

Photos of it later I'm sure.

Anyways, Ms. Sedaris has inspired me to make fake cakes but until I buy the supplies, I've decided to paint cakes instead.

While searching for "paintings of cakes" on Google I came across the famous artist Wayne Thiebaud. He painted really delicious looking still-lives. ALSO, a photographer named Sharon Core meticulously setup the still-lives in real life and took photos of them. They're practically identical.

Compare and contrast (the top is the painting, the bottom is the photograph):

There was also a fun painting of a little girl wearing a Betsey Johnson dress lazing amongst cakes that I saw in the back of Paper magazine, but alas, I cannot find it online.

Boo.

Enjoy!

On Chandeliers and Joann

I put up three chandeliers above my bed.

The two smaller ones are coming down asap for the following reasons:

A) One is perpetually lopsided
B) Three lights above my bed equals triple the heat above my bed
C) Too much glamor. I don't want the neighbors to get jealous

So yes.

I am taking up crafts and hobbies to pass the time.

Also to help pass the time:
Joann is back! Rumor has it that Jen ate 2.5 entire potatoes.

No blight here.

The Origin of my Family Name

I was reading up on Jim Jones ( love me some cults ) and learned that they used to call their mass suicide dress rehearsals "White nights".

Which, when those two words are put together, form my family name.

COINCIDENCE?

Oh and speaking of that, y'all are invited to my summer flavor-aid bash:

Must've been a rager!

Also, be careful when you drink "jungle juice".

Can We Open a Cupcake Shop?

And just display them all in these gems?!

While the sixty dollar price tag makes me weep a little, I think they would be really neat to have setting around.

I guess it takes me back to my mother, nana, great-nan, and other great-nan all displaying their freshly baked cakes in similar contraptions.

Mmmph.

I smell a vegan treats trip tomorrow.

Tuesday Thrift Review

Location: Sumner Family Thrift

I stumbled upon this BRUTIFUL grey leather Member's Only jacket.

Unfortunately it:

A) Was huge
B) Didn't have a tag which in Sumner means they wouldn't have sold it to me anyway

I probably would have done something drastic like... offered $50 bucks for the thing since it would never cost that much there.

Alas, I was separated from it again.

Oh yeah, I forgot I donated my old haircut there back in April. Good times. I hope this discounted hairpiece will help out either a young, cute boy reminiscent of myself or an old black lady.

Oh and as a bonus gift, Jen's glamour shots finally came in the mail today. Lookin' good!

Also, if you're in the area, come to Balasia for music night. I donno what I'll be doing, but I'll be there and so will vegan food.

Yay!

On Sarah Maple

Gosh I love self-portraits.

There seems to be this giant wave of Muslim women artwork.

I have to say that I am really liking it.

This self-portrait is by Sarah Maple.

She's young, British, and Muslim.

She also has a neat style and is cute (obviously this doesn't give her artistic merit, but hey, it's an added bonus, eh?).

Aesthetics!

Enjoy.

Bedroom of My Dreams

So sometimes Jess K. posts myspace bulletins.

And then most of the times they make me laugh.

They usually even have fun photos in them like this:

I mean, how clean and relaxing does that look?

Speaking of relaxing, I'm off to Philly today to be reunited with collegiate friends.

Bye!
